Indian Navy

The Machinery Trials Unit Kol is situated at Navy House in the Hastings area of Kolkata. We are part of the Netaji Subhas setup for the Indian Navy. It is an old building with a lot of character, and you can definitely feel the history when you walk through the halls. Our specific unit deals with a lot of technical stuff, so the office is often filled with manuals, tools, and technical drawings. It is not the cleanest or most modern place because we are always working with equipment. Kolkata is known for its humidity, and it can get very sticky in the office during the summer months. We have some old fans that help a little bit. Most of the people working here have been in the service for a long time. We have a routine that we follow every single day. There isn't any marketing talk or corporate jargon here. We just talk about the machines and what needs to be fixed or tested. We usually have our tea together in the morning and catch up on the news before the real work starts. The building is close to the river, and sometimes you can smell the water when the wind blows the right way. It is a solid, no-nonsense place to work. We just do our jobs and don't make a big deal out of it.
