Indian Institute Of Cerebral Palsy

Our place is over at 5 Bright Street in Kolkata. It’s an old building, but it has a lot of character and we’ve made it work for the kids and adults who come through our doors. The street can be a bit narrow, so parking is always a bit of a puzzle every morning. We have different rooms for different activities, and there’s usually a lot of noise—mostly good noise—from the therapy sessions. I've been working here for years and the walls could probably tell a lot of stories. We don't have those shiny marble floors you see in new hospitals. It’s more of a lived-in space where we try to help people with their daily movements and learning. Sometimes the lift acts up, so we use the stairs more than we’d like. The staff here mostly just focuses on the work at hand. We have a small outdoor area that catches some sun in the winter, which is nice for everyone. It’s not a corporate environment at all. We know most of the families by name because they’ve been coming here for a long time. Kolkata 700019 is a busy area, but once you step inside Bright Street, it feels a bit more focused on the people we're trying to help. We keep things tidy, though it’s hard with so many people moving around all day. It's just a regular place trying to do some good.
