Down in Batanagar, you can find us at Nangi Benia Para. It’s a specific part of Kolkata, 140 to be exact. Iibm has been operating out of here for some time now. The street outside can be a bit narrow, so parking is always a bit of a puzzle. It’s one of those neighborhoods where everyone knows everyone else’s business. We have our small space set up and we just get on with things. It is not a shiny glass building or anything like that. It’s more of a practical place with old walls and a bit of character. The humidity in Kolkata hits us pretty hard in the summer, so we keep the windows shut when we can. Working at Iibm means dealing with the sounds of the local market nearby. It’s never really silent, but we’ve gotten used to it. The rhythm of the place suits us just fine. We have our desks pushed together and there’s always a stack of papers somewhere that needs sorting. We don’t really have a big fancy lobby. You just walk in and we are there. It feels real. Sometimes we stay late when there is a lot to do, and other times we finish up and head out to grab some street food. It is a humble setup but it works for what we need. We are just a local group trying to do a good job without making a big fuss about it. We stay grounded here in Batanagar.
