We are situated over at 1 Bethune Row, which is right near the Girish Park police station in Kolkata. If you know that area, you know it gets very lively. The building has been here for a while and we take up our spot on the street. West Bengal summers can be tough, but we are always here behind the counters. People come in from the nearby markets and the houses around 700006. We handle a lot of different things, from basic deposits to people asking about their interest. It’s a lot of talking and a lot of typing on the computers. The police station being so close makes it feel pretty secure, which is a good thing for a bank. Kolkata has its own rhythm and we are part of that daily life. We see people heading to work or doing their shopping. Sometimes the street gets blocked up with traffic, but that’s just Bethune Row for you. We don’t have anything very fancy inside, just the desks and the chairs and the machines we need to do the job. It’s a practical setup. Most of the staff has been together for a bit so we know how to handle the busy hours. We just open the doors and see who comes in. It’s mostly regular people from the neighborhood who need to get their banking done before heading home. We just do the work and try to stay out of the heat.
