It’s one of those narrow streets that gets really crowded during the middle of the day, so getting here can be a bit of a challenge if you’re in a hurry. The building has been there for a long time and you can tell by looking at the stairs. We spend most of our time inside these walls at 12/13 Amartalla Street just handling whatever comes our way. It’s noisy outside with all the shouting and the carts moving by, but inside it’s just the usual office sounds. We don’t have any big signs or flashing lights. Just the name D. Dayalbhai & Co. so people know they’ve reached the right place. Sometimes the mail gets mixed up with the neighbors because the numbers are so close together, but we sort it out eventually. The morning starts with opening up the shutters and letting some air in, though it’s mostly just city air from the street. We’ve got our desks and our files and not much else in terms of decoration. It’s a straightforward way to run things. We like being on Amartalla Street because everything you need is just a short walk away, even if the pavement is a bit uneven. It’s just where we are and what we do every day without making a big fuss about it.
