Our office is located at 13 Pollock Street, which is right in the heart of the old business district here. If you’ve ever walked down these lanes, you know how narrow they are and how there is always something being loaded or unloaded from a truck nearby. It’s a very traditional environment. We work on infrastructure projects, which means we spend a lot of time dealing with technical specs and government paperwork. The building we are in has that classic Kolkata feel, high ceilings and thick walls that stay a bit cooler in the summer. We aren't into the modern glass building style. We prefer being where the action is. Usually, there are three or four of us in the office at any given time, hunched over tables or arguing about a specific delivery that hasn't arrived. The tea guy comes around twice a day, which is the highlight of the afternoon. We handle the groundwork and the structural stuff for various sites. It’s gritty work and involves a lot of dust and loud noises when we are out in the field. Back here on Pollock Street, it’s mostly about the logistics and making sure the bills get paid. We’ve been at this for a bit now, and we know the neighborhood like the back of our hand. It's a busy, noisy life, but we wouldn't have it any other way. We just keep our heads down and do the daily tasks.
