You can find us at 9, R. N. Mukherjee Road. Carritt Moran & Co. Pvt. Ltd. has been operating from this location for quite a while now. This part of the city is full of history and old buildings, and ours is no different. It has that old-school feel to it, with high ceilings and a bit of a musty smell from all the paper files we keep. We are mostly involved in the tea trade, which means a lot of our day is spent looking at samples and dealing with auction details. The wooden floorboards creak whenever someone walks to the back of the office to get some water. We have these big windows that let in a lot of light, but they also let in all the noise from R. N. Mukherjee Road. It’s hard to have a quiet conversation sometimes. We don't have any of those modern ergonomic chairs. Most of ours are old and a bit squeaky. We use a lot of rubber stamps and ink pads, and our hands are usually stained by the end of the day. It’s a very traditional way of working, and we like it that way. We don't have a flashy mission statement or a set of corporate values on the wall. We just know that the tea needs to be graded and the auctions need to happen on time. Sometimes the fans overhead don't do much against the Kolkata humidity, so we just sweat and keep going.
