Our spot is at 39, Kali Krishna Tagore Street in Kolkata. If you know that area, you know how packed it gets with people and shops everywhere. The building is one of those older ones that has a lot of character but also a lot of stairs to climb every single day. We handle the foundations and the basic structural stuff, so our boots are usually a bit muddy when we come back from the sites. The office is tucked away and filled with the smell of old paper and the incense from the shop next door. We don't have a HR department or anything like that. It is just a few of us who have known each other for years. We spend the mornings going over the material lists and checking the ledger. The traffic on Kali Krishna Tagore Street is legendary, so we try to get our site visits done early before the whole road turns into a parking lot. It is a bit cramped inside with all the files and samples of stone and bricks we keep around. Sometimes we have to move a pile of folders just to find a place to sit and have our lunch. We drink a lot of tea while we talk over the proper way to handle a tricky site. It is not a shiny office, but it works for us. We just focus on getting the work done so we don't have to go back and fix it later. It is honest work and we like being in the heart of the city.
