Bhuda Ram Choudhary

We are way up on the 9th floor of Park Tower, right on Ballygunge Circular Road. It’s a busy part of the city, and looking out the window, you can see the traffic piled up near Trivoli Court across the street. Being up this high means we’re away from the noise of the car horns, which is nice when you’re trying to focus on work. The office is pretty simple and hasn't changed much. We have some old wooden chairs and a lot of folders stacked on the metal shelves. Bhuda Ram Choudhary started this and we’ve just kept going from this same spot. Most days are spent looking over accounts or talking to people who drop in for meetings. The elevator is sometimes slow, so we end up waiting in the lobby talking to the security guards for a while. It’s not the kind of place with modern glass walls or anything fancy. It feels more like a lived-in space where work actually happens. We have a small pantry where we make tea, and that’s usually where most of the talking happens between us. Sometimes the monsoon rain hits the windows so hard you can’t see the road below. We just keep the lights on and keep working through the afternoon. It’s a steady pace, nothing too frantic, but we stay busy enough to keep the doors open. People know where to find us because we’ve been in this tower for so long. It’s just a regular office life in a tall building in the middle of Kolkata.
