It’s right here in Howrah, tucked away in one of those streets that always feels alive with people walking by and vendors calling out. The Bharti Axa Life Insurance Co Ltd office is in an older building that has a lot of character. We have high ceilings and heavy desks that have probably been here for years. The walls are a pale color and we’ve got calendars pinned up to keep track of the dates. It gets quite humid in Bally, especially during the monsoon, so the air feels thick some days. We spend our time going through application forms and checking details on our computer screens. It’s a lot of sitting and focused work. We usually get our tea from the shop at the corner of Sangha Sarani. People from the local neighborhood often stop in just to ask a quick question or drop off a letter. The street outside is narrow, so it’s mostly foot traffic and the occasional scooter. We don't have any fancy lights or modern art on the walls. It’s just a place where we come to work every morning and do our best to keep the records straight. By the end of the day, our desks are usually covered in post-it notes and files, but we try to tidy up before we head home to our families. The local kids play in the lane on weekends when we are sometimes here catching up.
