Down at 34 Creek Row in Dharmatala, the humidity really gets to you, especially in our line of work. We’ve been running Bharat Refrigeration Co from this spot for a long time. The street is narrow and always packed with people walking to the market or heading toward the tram lines. Our shop is crammed with cooling units, copper pipes, and heavy tools that always seem to be in the way. It’s a bit of a maze inside, and you have to be careful not to trip over a compressor or a bag of insulation. We spend our days mostly covered in grease or dust from cleaning out old vents. It’s hard work, and the phone rings constantly with people complaining about their machines breaking down in the heat. We don’t have a fancy waiting area or anything; people just stand near the entrance while we talk to them. The ceiling is high but the light is a bit dim, so we use these portable lamps when we’re working on something small. Lunch is usually whatever we can grab from the stall around the corner, eaten quickly before the next job starts. We don’t really do much advertising because everyone around Dharmatala knows we’re here. It’s a loud, messy place, but it’s where we do our best work. Sometimes the rain floods the street a bit, and we have to put everything up on blocks, but we’re used to it by now.
