Balaji Sales

We are over at 2, Ratan Sarkar Garden Street. Balaji Sales is basically a local spot for whatever the neighborhood needs at the moment. The street isn't too wide, so parking can be a real headache. We usually tell people to just walk or take a rickshaw. The shop is one of those places where you can find things you forgot you needed. It’s not very modern. We have fluorescent lights that buzz a bit. My brother and I run the place. We don't have a big staff, just us and a helper who comes in the afternoons. Most of our day is spent checking inventory and talking to suppliers on the phone. Sometimes the phone line cuts out. That's just how it is. We have a small desk covered in papers and old receipts. We don't throw much away. You never know when you might need a record from three years ago. The floor is concrete and has a few cracks, but it’s solid. We’ve been here since before the new buildings went up nearby. We like the old feel of the street. It feels like home to us. We eat our lunch in the back room while listening to the noise outside. It’s a good life. We just keep doing what we’re doing. No plans to change anything soon. Sometimes we close early on Tuesdays if there's a local festival happening in the next lane.
