Asian Scales & Engg. Corporation is on the first floor at 1/1A, Vansittart Row. If you know Kolkata, you know this area has a lot of history and the buildings are quite old. Our office has those high ceilings and big windows, but it also has a lot of dust from the street. We work with weighing scales and different engineering parts. It’s a quiet kind of work most of the time, involving a lot of calibration and checking numbers. The stairs up to the first floor are a bit steep and narrow, so it’s a workout every time we have to bring something up. We’ve been here for a long time and have seen the neighborhood change quite a bit. We don't really do much in the way of advertising. Usually, people just know us from word of mouth or because they’ve been coming here for years. The office is a bit of a jumble with old scales and spare parts sitting on almost every surface. We have a tea guy who comes by twice a day and that’s usually when we take our only real breaks. It’s a slow and steady kind of business. We aren't trying to be the biggest company out there; we just want to do our job and go home at the end of the day to rest.
