As A Cashier

I work over on Mitra Para Road in Barasat. The place is right near the Jagrity Sangha Club, which is a big landmark around here in the North 24 Parganas. Being a cashier means I am always around people and money. It’s a lot of counting and checking and making sure the till matches up at the end of the shift. The road outside is always full of people going to the club or the local shops. It gets quite noisy with the rickshaws and the chatter from the market. I’ve been at this job for quite a bit, and I know many of the regulars who come in. They usually have a story to tell while I’m processing their stuff. The desk where I sit is a bit worn down at the edges from years of use. I keep a bottle of water and a small notebook next to me to keep track of things. My back sometimes hurts from sitting in the same chair all day, but I get up and stretch when it’s quiet. Working in Barasat feels very local. You see the same faces every morning. I don't really think about it as anything special, it’s just my daily routine. When the sun starts to go down, I finish the final count, lock up, and head home. It’s a regular life, and I’m fine with that.
