Down at Gat No. 149 in Hatkanangale, that’s where we run the sizing business. It’s near the KATP area, which is mostly an industrial patch, so the roads can be a bit rough, especially when it rains and the mud gets everywhere. Our work involves sizing, which is basically preparing the yarn for the looms. It’s a noisy process with the machines running constantly, and there’s always a bit of a starchy smell in the air from the sizing mixture. The building is a large shed with high ceilings to keep it from getting too hot, but it still gets plenty warm in the afternoon. We don’t have a proper office room, just a small cabin partitioned off with some plywood where we keep the records. Most of the time, we’re out on the floor making sure the machines are running right and the yarn isn't snapping. It’s hard work and your hands get rough after a while. We have a small crew of guys who’ve been with us for a bit. There’s a tea stall just outside the gate where we all gather during the break. It’s not a glamorous place, but it’s where we spend most of our waking hours. We just focus on getting the work done and making sure the trucks are loaded properly before they head out to the weavers. It’s a lot of heavy lifting and grease, but that’s the nature of the sizing business in this area.
