You can find Mahaveer Weaving Industries Llp over in Sarvodaya Nagar, Ichalkaranji. We are right opposite the Hirkani Hotel, at house number C 10/316/2. Ichalkaranji is basically the Manchester of Maharashtra, so there are weaving sheds everywhere you look. Our place is one of them. We spend our days watching the looms and making sure the fabric comes out right. It’s a loud environment, but you get used to the rhythm of the machines after a few days. We don't have any polished corporate talk to give out. It’s just a group of us working in the shed and the small office area. Being near the hotel makes it easy to give directions to people coming from out of town. The area is always full of the smell of cotton and the sound of shuttles moving. We keep things basic. We take the yarn, we weave it, and then it goes out to whoever bought it. There isn't much more to it than that. Sometimes a machine breaks down and we have to spend the afternoon fixing it with grease all over our hands. That’s just part of the job. We aren't trying to change the world; we’re just making cloth in a town that’s been doing it for generations. It’s a steady life and we like being part of the local community here in Kolhapur.
