You can find us out in Chandur, over in the Kolhapur area. We are located at Gat Number 443, right at house number 82/1. This is a mill, so it isn't the quietest place to spend your day. There is always the sound of the machines running in the background. It’s a rhythmic noise that you stop hearing after a few hours. Cotton is everywhere here. It gets on your clothes and in your hair by the time the shift is over. We have a lot of space out here compared to the city shops, which is good because the raw materials take up a lot of room. The air feels different here than in the middle of town. We spend our time checking the machines and making sure the cotton is moving through like it should. Sometimes something breaks and we have to stop everything to fix it. That’s just part of the job. We don’t have fancy uniforms or a lobby. It’s just the mill floor and a small area where we keep our logs and drink water. The sun gets pretty hot in the afternoons, hitting the roof of the shed. We usually start early to get the bulk of the work done before it gets too warm. It’s hard work, but it’s what we know how to do here in Hatkanangale. We keep a few spare parts on the shelf just in case something acts up.
