Ichalkaranji is known for its textiles, and we are right in the thick of it. Our unit is in the New Industrial Estate in Shahu Nagar. We are at 18/522-23, which is very close to the Adarsh Mangal Karyalaya. You can usually hear the sound of the power looms from the neighboring units all day long. We work with cotton here. The air inside the unit always has a bit of a cotton smell to it. It is not a place where people wear fancy clothes. We are mostly in our shirtsleeves, checking threads or moving bags around. The office is just a small partitioned area with a wooden desk and a couple of chairs for visitors. We keep our ledgers and bills there. It is a very hands-on kind of business. The staff is local, and most of them have been working in textiles since they were young. We have tea twice a day from the local vendor who comes around on a bicycle. The roads in the industrial estate are a bit rough, and it gets muddy when it rains. We do not have any big signs or promotional posters. We just do our work and try to keep the quality of our cotton consistent. It is a simple life in a busy textile town, and we are just another part of the local industry here.
