Our setup is in Nagala Park, which is a nice part of Kolhapur. We are over at 249A 1/27/4/7, working out of the space with Anjali Annasaheb Mohite. It’s a handloom business, so things move a bit slower here than in the big mills. You can hear the sound of the looms clicking and clacking throughout the day. It’s a very manual process. We spend hours sitting at the frames, working the threads. The lighting has to be just right so we can see what we are doing. We have a lot of yarn in different colors stored on shelves along the walls. The building itself is older and has a lot of character. We don't have a storefront with big glass windows. Instead, people usually find us by word of mouth or by coming to the address directly. It’s a more personal way of doing things. We often have tea while we work and talk about whatever is going on in the neighborhood. The pace is steady but not rushed. We take our time with the weaving because that’s the only way to do it. Sometimes the thread snaps and we have to stop to fix it, which takes a bit of patience. It’s just us doing our thing in E Ward, keeping the old ways of making cloth going. We usually close up early on Saturdays to spend time with our families.
