Down here in South Salmara, things are always tied to the land and the river. Southsalmara Farmer Producer Company Limited is located in Tersertari, near Dhubri. Mohibul Islam Rajabal is the person to look for if you’re trying to find us. This part of Assam has its own challenges, especially with the weather and the way the river behaves sometimes. We aren't a big city business. We are just a collection of farmers who realized we are better off working as one group. Our address is basically a home in the village where we keep our papers and meet up. There’s no big sign or anything flashy. We spend our mornings in the fields and our afternoons talking about logistics. It can be hard to get things to the bigger markets from here, but we manage. We talk about the price of jute or paddy and how to get better tools for the next season. The language we use is just what we speak at home. We don’t have fancy mission statements. We just want to make sure the work we put into the ground comes back to us. It's a lot of manual labor and sometimes the crops don't do what we want, but that is the life of a farmer in Dhubri. We just keep going, day after day, helping each other out. It is a slow process but we are making our way.
