Kerala Spice

Kerala Spice is located at 459 in Edapally. It’s a very busy area and the noise from the main road never really stops. Our shop is just a simple place where we keep different kinds of spices in big open bags and jars. When you walk in, the smell hits you immediately. It’s a mix of cloves, cinnamon, and black pepper. Some people say it’s too strong, but we don't even notice it anymore. We spend a lot of time cleaning the spices by hand, picking out little stones or bits of stem that shouldn't be there. It’s tedious work and it makes your fingers smell like turmeric for days. We don't have a big fancy sign or anything like that. Just the house number and a few bags sitting out front so people know what we sell. Edapally is always changing, with new buildings going up all the time, but our little corner stays pretty much the same. We have an old wooden counter where we weigh everything out. The scale is a bit moody sometimes, but it’s been with us since we started. Most of our customers are locals who live within walking distance. They come in for a small bit of this or that while they’re out doing their other errands. We don't try to compete with the big supermarkets. We just keep our small space at 459 and do what we've always done. It’s a quiet way to make a living.
