Kishor Spices Company

Our place is tucked away in Jewtown, Mattanchery, which is a part of town that always smells like black pepper and ginger. We’ve got the P.B. No. 262 address, but mostly people just find us by walking down the narrow streets near the water. The building is old, like everything else around here, and the walls have seen a lot of seasons. Every morning starts with the sound of shutters going up all along the lane. We spend a lot of time moving bags around and checking on what’s come in from the growers. It gets very hot in the afternoons, so we usually take a bit of a break when the sun is at its highest. The wooden floors creak when you walk on them, and there’s always a bit of dust in the air from the spices. We’ve got a few old desks and some scales that have been with us for years. It’s not a fancy setup, just a practical one for the kind of work we do. Most days are busy with people dropping by to talk or check on orders. You can hear the tourists outside sometimes, but inside it’s mostly just the sound of the fans and the occasional truck backing up to load. It’s a good spot to be, right in the heart of the old trade area where everyone knows everyone else’s name.
