Spice Market

Spice Market is located at Vii/12, Jew Towe in Mattanchery. If you have ever been to Mattanchery, you know it is famous for its history and the smell of spices in the air. Our place is right in the middle of all that. It’s an old building and it definitely feels like it. We don't have air conditioning throughout the whole place or modern glass doors. It’s a traditional setup where we handle various spices every day. The tourists often walk past our door on their way to the synagogue or the local markets. We spend a lot of time sorting through bags and making sure the quality is what it should be. It can be dusty work and your clothes always end up smelling like pepper or cardamom. We don't spend money on advertising because the location itself brings people in. Most of our customers are locals who have been buying from this area for a long time. We just talk to them like neighbors. We aren't interested in becoming a huge chain. We like being right here in this corner of Mattanchery. The work is steady and it keeps us busy from morning until evening. Sometimes the rain floods the streets a little, but we just wait it out. It’s a good life here among the spices and the old buildings. We just keep doing what we know.
