Nilachakra Farmers Producer Company

Nilachakra Farmers Producer Company is run out of Bimal Kar’s place in Dagarapratappur. We’re a small group of local farmers who wanted to do things a bit differently. Dagarapratappur is a place where everyone knows everyone, so it wasn't hard to get people together. We use the space at Bimal’s to store some of our supplies and to have our meetings. Usually, those meetings are just us sitting around drinking tea and talking about the crops. We don’t have any fancy mission statements or anything like that. We just want to make sure we can sell what we grow without losing money. The farming work is hard, and the hours are long, especially when the harvest is ready. We help each other out with the heavy lifting and sharing tools when someone’s tractor is down. It’s a practical way to live. We’ve all been through bad years and good years, so we know not to get too excited about things. We handle the paperwork ourselves, which is a bit of a chore, but it has to be done. Being in Dagarapratappur means we are close to the land we work on every day. We don’t try to sound like a big company because we aren't one. We’re just a bunch of neighbors trying to make a living from the soil. If you come by, you’ll see it’s a simple operation, focused on the basics of farming. It is mostly just about getting by.
