Jeevanjyoty Farmers Producer Company Limited is over in Nehurupatna, near Kantilo. We operate out of Saroj Kumar Rout’s place. We aren't some big city corporation with a glass building. Our office is right where we live and work. Most of us have been farming since we were kids, and this company is our way of making sure our children can do the same if they want to. We get together to talk about the best times to plant and how we can get our goods to the town markets. It’s a lot of coordination, which can be a headache, but it’s better than being on your own. We try to keep things straightforward. If someone has a surplus of seeds, we share. If someone’s crop fails, we try to see how the group can help out. It’s a simple way of living, but it’s ours. We don’t use any high-tech marketing schemes. We just trust the people we’ve known for years. The work is physical and tiring, but having the company gives us a bit of a safety net. We are just trying to keep the farms in Nehurupatna healthy and productive. It’s about the people and the land, nothing more and nothing less. We take pride in what we grow and how we handle our business, even if it’s just in a small corner of Kantilo.
