Nigam Farmer Producer Company Limited is based out of Gop, specifically in Simuli. Purna Chandra Mohapatra is the one in charge of the place. We’re just a small outfit of local farmers. Most of us have been working these same fields since we were boys. It’s not an easy way to make a living, but it’s what we know. We put this company together to try and get a better handle on the market side of things. Usually, we’re just focused on the dirt and the seeds. Now we have to think about books and records too. It’s a bit of a learning curve for some of us. The office in Simuli is pretty basic. We don't need much, just a roof over our heads and a place to sit when the sun is too hot. You can find us there most days, though we might be out in the back. There’s no big fancy sign, just the address and some bags of grain sitting around. We don't spend money on things we don't need. Every rupee counts when you're farming. We like to keep things straightforward. If someone has a problem, they bring it up, and we try to find a solution together. That’s how things work in a small place like Gop. We aren't trying to change the world, just trying to make sure we can keep doing what we do for a few more years.
