Vignan High School is right in the middle of Pakabanda Bazar in Khammam. If you’ve ever walked through the bazar, you know it’s a chaotic place with shops and people everywhere. Our building at 5-3-9 is right in the thick of it. Sometimes the sound of the traffic and the vendors makes it hard to hear the teachers, but we’ve all learned to speak a bit louder over the years. It’s a tall building for this street, and we use every bit of space we have. Khammam gets incredibly hot, and our classrooms can feel like ovens by mid-afternoon. We do what we can with coolers and open windows, but it’s a struggle. The staff here is like a small family. We’ve worked together for a long time, sharing tea in the tiny breakroom and complaining about the latest changes in the curriculum. We don’t have a big grassy field for sports, so the kids usually just play in the paved areas or we take them elsewhere when we can. It’s a practical sort of place. We focus on getting through the syllabus and making sure the students pass their exams. There aren't many frills here. If a desk breaks, we fix it ourselves. If the roof leaks, we put a bucket under it until we can get someone out to look at it. It’s just how we run things every day.
