Amutham Fabrics

We are based in Karur, right in Kamarajapuram North. The area is known for fabrics, so there is competition everywhere you look. Our building at 89 B isn't anything special to look at. Inside, it's full of fabric rolls and samples of different weaves. We spend a lot of time on the phone or talking to people who walk in. Karur gets very hot, so we have big fans blowing all day to keep the air moving. We mostly work with cotton. You can see the threads all over our chairs and the floor. We check the dye lots to make sure the colors are consistent. Sometimes they aren't, and then we have to figure out what went wrong. It's a lot of physical work, moving the heavy rolls around. We have a small courtyard where we sometimes sit for a break. We don't have a big marketing department. We just rely on the fact that we've been here a long time and people know our name. The neighborhood is mostly other textile shops and small houses. We know the local rhythms, like when the tea man comes around. We just focus on the fabric and making sure the orders are packed tight in plastic so they stay clean. It's a simple, busy life in the textile trade, and we just keep at it as best as we can every day.
