Nagarajan Bricks

Nagarajan Bricks is right here at 52/11, Thiruvananthapuram Main Road in Aralvaimozhi. We spend most of our time out in the yard under the sun. It is a hot place to work, but that is how bricks get made. You can see our stacks from the road as you drive by. We don't have a big office or anything like that. It’s just a patch of land where we do our business. The trucks come in and out all day, kicking up a lot of dust. Sometimes the wind really picks up through the gap here, but we just keep working. We’ve seen the main road change quite a bit over the years. More cars and more noise now than there used to be. We just stay focused on the piles of clay and the kiln. It is hard work on your back and your hands get rough. We have local guys helping out, and we all just try to get through the day's tasks. If someone needs bricks, they just pull over and talk to whoever is near the gate. We don't use fancy computers for much. Most things are written down on scraps of paper or just remembered. It's a simple way to live and work. Aralvaimozhi is a busy spot, and being on the main road means we are never really alone, even if the work itself is quiet.
