Shop 175 on Canal Road is where you’ll find us. We are right by Express Road in the Dhana Khori area of General Ganj. It’s a very busy part of the city, and the traffic on the canal road never really seems to stop. We have been running this masala business out of this shop for years. Inside, it’s mostly just stacks of spices and the grinding equipment we use daily. The sound of the grinder is something you just get used to after a while. We spend our days measuring out powders and sealing them up in bags for the local vendors. It’s a dusty job, and by the time we close up, everything is covered in a fine layer of spice dust. We don't have a lot of room for a fancy setup. Every inch of the shop is used for storage or work. Sometimes we sit out on the front step for a bit of air when it gets too hot inside. The regulars know us well and they usually just shout their order from the street. We don't bother with much paperwork beyond what’s necessary for the taxes. It’s a local operation and we keep things simple. My hands usually smell like turmeric or cumin even after I wash them at night. It’s just the way it goes when you work here.
