I'm working here at Routine Masale. We are over on Rehna Road in Humaunpur. It's pretty close to the Fire Brigade Station, so we hear the sirens a lot. It’s a busy spot. Most days it’s just us figuring out how to get things done. We make spices, or masales as everyone says here. It started small. My family has been around this part of town for a long time. People usually stop by when they’re headed home or if they live right nearby in Humaunpur. The shop isn't fancy. There’s always a bit of dust from the grinding, and the smell of turmeric and chili gets into everything you wear. Sometimes it’s a bit much, but you get used to it after a while. We just try to keep the bags full and the shelves looking somewhat organized, though it gets messy when we’re busy. The road outside can get narrow with all the rickshaws and people moving around. It’s not like those big factories you see in the city. It’s just us here. We spend a lot of time just chatting with people who come in. Everyone knows everyone around the fire station. If you're looking for something for your kitchen, we probably have it sitting back there in a jar or a packet. It’s just what we do every day. Nothing too special about it, really. Just hard work and a lot of spice smells.
