Mathora Das Om Prakash

Our shop, Mathora Das Om Prakash, is located at 119/542 on the Main Road in Gumti No 5. The name has been with our family for a long time, and we take pride in just being here every day. We are right on the main stretch, so the area is always crowded with shoppers and rickshaws. We deal in a lot of different things, mostly provision items and stuff for the house. It is a very old-fashioned way of doing business. We do not have a computer or anything like that. We use a simple scale and a pen to write down what people owe. The shop is filled with bags and boxes from the floor to the ceiling. It might look a bit disorganized to someone from the outside, but we know exactly where the turmeric is and where the lentils are stored. Working on the Main Road means we have to deal with a lot of noise and heat, but you get used to it after a few years. We start our day early, opening the heavy shutters and setting out some of the goods on the front step. At 119/542, we have seen many shops come and go, but we have stayed put. We are just local shopkeepers doing what we know best. There is no fancy talk here, just the daily business of selling quality goods to the people of Kanpur who walk through our door every day.
