We are based in Kanpur, specifically in the Gumti No 5 area. The address is 118/243 and 102/11 in Kaushlapuri. If you know Kanpur, you know that Gumti is one of the busiest markets you can find. There is always something happening outside, with vendors shouting and vehicles honking. Our place is tucked away a bit from the main chaos, but you can still feel the energy of the city. The building has narrow stairs that lead up to our rooms. Inside, the floors are tiled and we have several benches lined up. We have been here for a long time and the walls are decorated with some old posters and maps. We keep a large water drum in the corner for anyone who gets thirsty. The routine is the same every day. We open up the windows to let some air in, though sometimes the dust from the street comes in too. We have a small desk where we do all the paperwork and handle the registrations. It’s a lot of manual work, writing names in registers and marking attendance. The Kaushlapuri neighborhood is mostly residential, so we have a lot of locals walking by. By the time we close up in the evening, the market is usually at its peak. We just lock the doors and head home, ready to do it all again tomorrow. It is just a basic place for people to study.
