Nirmalagiri College

Nirmalagiri College is situated in the Kuthuparamba area of Kannur. It’s a very green part of Kerala, so the campus always feels a bit like it's tucked away in the trees. The walk up to the college is something most of the students and staff are very familiar with. It’s been here for a long time, and you can tell by the way the buildings look. They are sturdy but show their age in a nice way. We don't have those glass-walled offices you see in the cities. It’s mostly open hallways and windows that let the breeze in. When it rains, which happens a lot here in Kannur, everyone huddles under the porch areas. The staff room is usually full of people marking papers or just catching up. We see a lot of local faces every day. It’s a quiet place for the most part, except during the lunch break when the canteen gets crowded. People from the nearby villages often recognize the students by their uniforms or just because this is a small town. We don’t put on many airs here. It’s just a place to come and learn. There’s a sense of history in the hallways that you can’t really fake. You just come in, do your work, and go home. It’s a steady part of life for everyone living around Nirmalagiri and Kuthuparamba.
