Mahishi Multi Farmers Producer Company is situated in Parsain, which is part of the Senapati district. Dilli Ram Khatiwoda is the person you’d talk to there. Being in Senapati, we deal with a lot of different types of farming because the land and the weather allow for it. We call it "multi-farmers" because we don't just stick to one thing. Some of us grow vegetables, some have fruit trees, and others might have a bit of livestock. It’s a mix. We’re a group that decided it was better to stand together than to try and sell everything on our own. The roads in this part of Manipur can be quite a challenge, especially when they get muddy. Getting our produce out to the bigger markets is always the biggest headache we face. We meet up at Dilli Ram’s place to talk about who’s growing what and how we can share the costs of the trucks. We don’t have a professional office with a receptionist. You’ll usually find us out in the fields or sitting on the porch discussing the price of fertilizer. It’s a tough life and we don’t make a lot of money, but it’s what we know. We’re just trying to keep our farms healthy and our families fed. There’s no big corporate strategy here, just a lot of dirt under our fingernails and hope for a good harvest season. It is just a simple farming life.
