Damdama College, Kulhati

We are over here in Kulhati, right in the Hajo area of Assam. The college has been part of this community for a while now. Most mornings start with students coming in from the nearby villages, some walking and some taking the bus. The gates open early and you can hear the chatter near the tea stalls outside. It’s a plain building, nothing too fancy, but it gets the job done. Inside, the classrooms have those old wooden desks that have seen a lot of use over the years. The teachers usually gather in the staff room before the first bell, drinking tea and talking about the day's lessons. In the rainy season, the courtyard gets a bit muddy, but we just put down some bricks so people can walk. It’s quiet here compared to the main town, which is nice for focusing on books. We have a small library where the fans hum all day. During the afternoons, the sun hits the front of the building and things slow down a bit. You might see some students sitting under the trees during their break time, just talking or checking their notes. We don’t have those big flashy signs or anything like that. People just know where we are because we’ve been here at Damdama for so long. It’s just a place where young people come to finish their degrees and figure out what to do next with their lives.
