You’ll find Som Shiva Impex Ltd. down in Phase-1 of the GIDC at Plot No. 111. Being in Phase-1 means we’re in one of the older parts of the estate, so the roads are a bit narrow and the buildings have character. We deal with a lot of imports and exports, which means our day is dictated by shipping schedules and customs paperwork. It’s a lot of back-and-forth on the phone with agents and drivers. The warehouse part of our plot is usually stacked high with crates and pallets. Sometimes it feels like a giant puzzle trying to get everything to fit so the forklift can still move around. We have a small office upstairs where we handle the documents. It’s got a good view of the main gate so we can see who’s coming and going. The air conditioning in there struggles a bit during the peak of summer, but it beats being out on the loading dock. We’ve been here for years, and we’ve seen shops around us change owners many times. We just keep our heads down and focus on our own tasks. It’s not a glamorous job, especially when you’re dealing with a delayed container at the port, but it’s what we do. We share tea with the drivers while they wait for their papers to be signed, hearing stories from all over the country. It is just everyday life for us here.
