We are Sagara Naadu Kuri Mattu Unne Farmers Producer Company Limited. Our office is in the Kalal Complex, No. 11/90, which is right by the new bus stand in Gogipeth, Shahapur. The name is a mouthful, but it basically means we work with sheep and wool. Most of the folks involved are local shepherds who have been doing this for generations. We got together to see if we could get a better handle on selling the wool and managing the flocks. Shahapur can be a tough place for grazing when the dry season hits, so we talk a lot about where to take the animals. The office stays busy because the bus stand is right there, so people are always passing through. It’s a noisy spot but it’s convenient for the farmers coming in from the outlying villages. We don’t have any fancy equipment, just some space to meet and talk. Sometimes we help people figure out health issues with their sheep or where to get better feed for the lambs. It’s very hands-on and practical work. We aren't trying to change the world, just trying to make sure the wool gets sold and the sheep stay healthy. It’s a simple life and the work follows the seasons. We are usually there most mornings if anyone needs to stop by and chat about their herd. There is usually someone around who knows the latest prices for wool or who has a lead on some good grazing land.
