You can find Nagarjuna High School over at 1/300, Maruti Nagar in Kadapa. It’s a residential neighborhood, so it stays relatively quiet compared to the main roads, which we appreciate. The building has been here for quite some time, and you can see it in the wear on the stairs and the faded paint on the gates. We don’t have a lot of money for fancy renovations, so we just keep things functional. The classrooms are simple with rows of benches and boards that have seen thousands of lessons. The weather in Kadapa is mostly dry and hot, so the fans are always clicking away. Our teachers are local residents who walk or ride their bikes to work every day. They know the kids’ parents and grandparents. It creates a very grounded atmosphere. We don’t talk much about grand visions; we just focus on making sure the kids show up, do their homework, and stay out of trouble. There’s a small yard where the students gather for assembly in the morning, and you can hear their voices echoing off the nearby houses. It’s a very standard, no-nonsense kind of school. We handle the paperwork, the midday meals, and the occasional scraped knee. We’re just a group of people working together to keep a school running in this corner of Kadapa. That’s about all there is to it for us.
