Our office is located in Kotda village, which is part of the Bhuj taluka in the Kutch district. We use the space at Naran Karsan Chhabhaiya’s place. Since this is Bhuj Mahila Farmer Producer Company Limited, it’s mostly the women from the village who are involved in the day-to-day work. Kutch is a hard place for farming because of the dry weather, but we’ve been doing it for generations. We decided to formalize things so we could have a bit more say in the market. We don't have a lot of modern equipment in the office, just the basics to keep our records straight. We meet up to talk about what we are growing and how to get it to the buyers. It’s a lot of talk, but it’s how we stay organized. The work is physically demanding and the sun is hot, but we manage. We aren't looking for fame or anything. We just want to make sure our families are taken care of. Being a local producer group means we look out for each other. Sometimes the paperwork gets confusing, but we help each other out. It’s a very grounded way of living. We know every inch of our fields. This company is just an extension of the work we already do in the dirt every morning. We just keep moving forward.
