Working near the water in Mangrol is a different kind of life. We are based out of shop six in Somnath Bhavan, right by the Bandar area. The smell of the salt and fish is part of every morning for us. We handle a lot of the catch that comes in from the coast here in Junagadh district. It’s a lot of physical work, mostly sorting and making sure things are moved quickly to the trucks. Fishing depends on the weather and the tide, so our schedule is never really the same two days in a row. Sometimes the boats are late and we're just waiting around. Other times it’s a mad rush to get everything sorted before the ice melts. We aren't a big fancy outfit, just a fisheries business trying to make a living. The office is small but it serves its purpose for the paperwork and phone calls. My uncle started things and now we just keep the wheels turning. It gets loud down by the docks when the market is going. You have to be okay with getting your hands dirty in this line of work. We’ve been in this part of Gujarat a long time. People know us by name mostly. It's hard work but it's what we know how to do. We just keep at it every day and try to stay ahead of the next tide.
