Shayam Lal Pana Lal Soni

Our business, Shayam Lal Pana Lal Soni, is right in the middle of the Main Market in the Kapada Bajar area of Jodhpur. Being in the cloth market means there is always a lot of noise and people moving around outside our doors. This is an old part of the city, and the streets are quite narrow, so it feels very traditional. We deal with the items that the local families and other traders need throughout the day. We have been in this location for many years, and the shop has been passed down through the family. It’s not a modern store with air conditioning or glass doors. It’s an open-front shop where you can see everything we have as you walk by. We spend a lot of time talking to the other shopkeepers nearby and watching the crowds go by. Sometimes it gets so hot in the summer that we have to close for a few hours in the afternoon, but we are always back for the evening rush. We don't have a website or anything like that. People just know our name and where to find us in the market. It’s a simple way of doing business, based on knowing people and being there every day when they need something.
