Sarveshwar Spices & Condiments

Our place is out by the BSF Training Centre in Narshing Vihar at Lal Sagar B 49. It is a bit far from the main city so it is usually quieter out here than most other parts. We deal with a lot of spices and condiments that we store in big sacks. The air inside the store is thick with the smell of cloves and cumin seeds. We spend the morning hours sorting through the new arrivals to make sure they are clean. It is slow work and your back starts to ache after a while from leaning over the bags. The shop itself is just a simple room with some metal racks and a heavy wooden door that we paint every few years. We don't get a huge number of walk-in customers because of the location being out on the edge. Most of our work is preparing orders that get picked up by small trucks later in the day. There is a small tea stall nearby where we go for breaks in the afternoon. Sometimes the wind blows the sand in from the road and we have to clean the bags constantly. We use old metal scoops to move the spices into smaller containers for the customers. It’s not a fancy business but it keeps us busy from morning until evening. The walls are painted a dull blue and the floor has some cracks in it. We just focus on getting the spices ready for delivery. It’s a quiet way to earn a living out here.
