We are based in the Mahamandir area of Jodhpur, specifically around Dhan Mandi. Royal Cotters is a place where we deal with a lot of local goods and fabrics. Jodhpur can get incredibly hot, so our shop is a bit of a refuge with a ceiling fan that never stops spinning. The Dhan Mandi area is always full of the sounds of traders and the smell of the market. We have piles of stock that sometimes reach the ceiling, and we have to use a rickety ladder to get things down. It is a very traditional way of doing business, with a lot of face-to-face talking and handshakes. We don't have an automated system for everything; we still use paper ledgers and pens most of the time. Our family has been in this area for a while, and we know most of the people who walk past our shop every day. It is not a shiny showroom with bright lights. It is a practical space where we store and sell what people need. Sometimes the narrow streets make it hard to get deliveries in, but we manage. We aren't interested in being the biggest business in Rajasthan. We just want to keep things running steadily and serve the people who come into Mahamandir looking for useful items. It is just our way of life here in the heart of the old city.
