Ravi Spices is set up in Shop No. 71 within the Mandore Industrial Area. It’s just outside Jodhpur, so the landscape is pretty dry and rocky. The State Bank of India is right nearby, which is handy for our daily banking needs. Being in an industrial area means there’s a lot of noise from the neighboring factories and constant dust in the air. We deal in spices, so our shop always has a strong aroma that stands out against the smell of machinery and exhaust from the trucks. Inside Shop 71, things are pretty basic. We have our scales, our bags, and a small desk where we handle the paperwork. It’s not a fancy showroom for tourists. It’s a place where we do the actual work of sorting and packing every day. The heat in Jodhpur can be quite something in the summer, and the shop gets pretty warm, but the overhead fans help a bit. Most of our day is spent talking to suppliers or coordinating with drivers who are taking the spices to the local markets. We’ve been here in the Mandore area for a while, and we know most of the other shop owners around. It’s a community of people just trying to make a living. We don't use any fancy technology, just the same methods we've used for years to keep things running. It’s a straightforward business and we like it that way.
