We are over in Pokhran, specifically at the place of Jeevan Lal Guraniya in Guraniya Ka Bass. Pokhran is a tough place for anyone who works with the soil because it is so dry and hot most of the time. Our group is just a bunch of us farmers trying to navigate the market together. We aren't some big enterprise with fancy offices. Our headquarters is just a plain building where we meet to discuss the crops and the water situation. We don’t have a lot of bells and whistles. We just focus on the local varieties of crops that can actually survive out here in the desert. We spend our days checking on the fields and then coming back to talk about prices. It’s a lot of manual labor and the dust is always part of the job. We aren’t trying to impress anyone with big words or polished presentations. We just want to get through the season and hope for a decent harvest. Sometimes we sit around for a long time just drinking tea and waiting for the heat to die down so we can get back to work. It’s a slow pace of life but the work itself is quite demanding. We just try to help each other out and keep the local farming community alive in this harsh climate. Every day brings a new challenge but we manage.
