Swedeshi Store

You can find us right at R.N. Chowk, which is a busy little spot. We are situated exactly opposite the Sunder Singh Gurdwara. It’s actually quite nice because we can hear the morning prayers every day when we are opening up the shutters. Swedeshi Store is a very simple place. We aren't like those big supermarkets where you can’t find anyone to help you. It’s just me and my nephew most of the time. We stock the basic things that people in the neighborhood need. Our shelves are made of wood and they are a bit old, but we keep them clean. We know almost everyone who walks through the door by their name. If someone is a few rupees short, we don't worry about it too much. That is how things are done here. The chowk is always full of noise with rickshaws and buses, but inside it’s a bit quieter. We spend a lot of time just moving things around and making sure we have enough stock. We don't have a website or a big sign with lights. People know where we are because of the Gurdwara landmark. On festival days, it gets very crowded around here, but we just stay busy and keep serving the customers. It’s an honest, simple living for us. We don't want to be a giant chain; we just want to run this one store well and look after our families.
