Stepping Stone Playway School

We've been running Stepping Stone Playway School here in Bari Brahmana for a while now. It’s a busy part of Jammu and the school is tucked right into the community. Most mornings start with the sound of rickshaws dropping kids off at the gate and us trying to get everyone inside without too much fuss. It isn't a fancy place with high-tech gadgets everywhere, but we have enough toys and books to keep the little ones busy. The teachers here are mostly from the nearby blocks, so we all know each other’s families. We spend a lot of time just managing the energy levels of thirty toddlers who all want to talk at once. Sometimes the power goes out and we just move the chairs closer to the windows so we can keep drawing. It gets quite warm in the afternoons, but we manage. We aren’t trying to do anything grand, just making sure the kids have a safe spot to spend their day while their parents are at work. You’ll usually see a few of us standing near the entrance in the morning, making sure no one trips over their own shoelaces. It’s a simple setup. We have the usual charts on the walls and the smell of afternoon snacks often drifts through the hallway. It’s just how things go here in Bari Brahmana, day in and day out, and we like the rhythm of it.
