We are located in Daregaon, which is part of Chalisgaon in the Jalgaon district. Our name, Shivsahyadriagro Farmer Producer Company Limited, is a bit of a mouthful, but we just think of ourselves as a group of local farmers trying to do better. Life in Jalgaon revolves around the weather and the crops, and it’s no different for us. We started this company because we wanted to have more control over how our produce is handled once it leaves the field. Our office is right here in the village, so we don't have to go far to talk to our members. It’s a simple setup. We meet under the shade or in our small office space to talk about seeds, fertilizers, and the market rates. It’s not fancy work. It involves a lot of sweat and sometimes a lot of worry when the rain doesn't come on time. We don't have any marketing people writing things for us; we just say it like it is. We are people who know the land and know how hard it is to make a living from it. By working together in Daregaon, we try to share the burden and the successes. It’s a slow process building a company from the ground up in a rural area, but we are taking it one day at a time. We just want to keep our farms going and provide for our families without too many middlemen getting in the way.
