Akrani Mahal Growers Tech Farmer Producer Company Limited. Dhadgaon, Nandurbar. We are way up in the hilly areas of Nandurbar, in Dhadgaon. Our office is just at house number 620 on the main road. It’s a busy spot but that’s where we get things done. In Akrani, the farming is quite traditional, but we wanted to bring in some better techniques. That is why "Tech" was put in the name. Don't think this is some high-tech lab. Just farmers trying to use better seeds and maybe some new tools we saw. The landscape here is beautiful but farming on the slopes is tough. Pulses and local grains are what we grow. Most of the time, the rain and whether the trucks will come up the hills to take our stuff are the main worries. This company was started so we wouldn't be at the mercy of the middleman who takes all the profit. Managing the members and the money is a lot of work. Sometimes we sit until late at night at the Dhadgaon office just to finish the entries. Expertise in business isn't what we have; we are experts in the land. Learning the business side happens as we go along. It's a group effort by the local growers here. Seeing our kids have a better future on this land without moving to the city is what we want. A long journey lies ahead, but we keep walking.
